Teenager to open Jingle Bell Ball

A SINGING starlet has beaten off competition from thousands of young hopefuls from around the country to win a singing competition.

Raphaella Aristocleous, 15, of Hampton Road, Highams Park, entered the Be a Star competition three weeks ago.

She has won the chance to open the Jingle Bell Ball next weekend which will see Kylie, Black Eyed Peas and Alexandra Burke performing to 32,000 people.

The competition, run by Capital FM and Windows 7, had thousands of people submitting audition tapes.

But Raphaella's version of Shakin' Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone was announced as the winner.

She has now recorded her own version of the song which will be played at the beginning of the ball at the O2 Arena on December 4.

She said: “I feel so overwhelmed, it is like a dream come true.

“I didn't think something this big would happen to me.

“I have sang at small venues before, but nothing on this level.

“I had a busy weekend recording the song and can't wait to see people's reactions. I will be going to the ball and it will be great to see how it has turned out.”

Jingle Bell Ball tickets available

The Historical Society of Topsail Island will hold its 5th annual Jingle Bell Ball Dec. 4.

Tickets for the evening of dinner, dancing and cocktails are now available.

General admission non-reserved seats are $40 per person. Reserved sponsor tables for parties of four up to eight people are $75 per person and include some special perks, according to the official release.

All proceeds benefit The Historical Society of Topsail Island. HSTI is a 501(c) (3), nonprofit organization. Donations or a portion of the ticket cost may be tax deductible.

The ball will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Topsail Island Assembly Building, located at 720 Channel Blvd.

Jingle Bell Ball 2010 sold out under an hour

Kylie Minogue and Black Eyed Peas made the Jingle Bell Ball to sell out within an hour. The two day event that is headlined by the Black Eyed Peas on Saturday December 4 and Kylie on Sunday December 5. It went on went on sale at 8am on Monday. The other line up are Cee Lo Green, The Script, The Wanted, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Derulo, Olly Murs, Alexandra Burke, Taio Cruz and McFly will also be performing at the Saturday show at the London's O2 Arena

The event takes place at the O2 Arena in London with some of the proceeds going to Help a London Child, which is Capital FM’s main charity.

The only remaining chance of acquiring a ticket is to buy tickets from secondary ticket market like Gigsport or win one at Capital FM.
